PHASE SEVENTEEN

THE LABORERS

Section I--A Restorer Returned
(Friday, morning, the second day of Nissan)

_A_ND on Friday morning, the second day of April, when my disciples and I had again crossed over the sea of Hula, and had traveled the inland strait of Geshur, and had redeemed the boat, a large multitude of Galileans assembled together unto me; and by Friday even, I was still nigh unto the sea of Galilee.

02 And from Capharnaum there cometh Jesus, the chief priest of the synagogue. And remembering how I healed Matthew the arthritic, seeing me, he falleth down at my feet. And Jesus besought me much, saying: Lord, my daughter is at the point of death, come, lay thy hand upon her, that she may be safe, and may live.

Section II--The Story of Magdalen
(Friday morning, the second day of Nissan)

03 And leaving the sea-side of Genez`areth, I went with him to his home, and a multitude of Capharnaums followed me to Chorazin, and they pressed upon me.

04 And Migdala the virgin, a woman who had recently given birth, and had suffered many woes from the hands of a Roman named Lucus who plundered and raped her; and was worse off than the married women who called her labour sinful, and her son a mongrel; when she had heard of me, stood out amidst those who crowded me, and glorified me.

05 And immediately remembering that I was ill received upon my last visit to Capharnaum, and not knowing inside of myself who had tugged on my aura, whether friend or foe, turning to the multitude, I saith unto them: Who hath touched me?

06 And my disciples who walked along side of me and also behind me, answered, and said to me: Thou seest the multitude crowding thee, and thou saith to us: Who hath touched me?

07 And turning my head about, I saw her who had touched me; but laying her son and a bed of roses at my feet, Migdala the virgin mother, came and fell down before me. For she said to me: Lord, after seeing your white aura, I thought within myself: If only I could touch but his garment, I shall be made a holy vessel once more.

08 And also touched by the magnitude of her aura, answering, I saith unto this precious rose: Daughter of God, thy faith in my aura has made thee into a holy vessel. Be thou whole of thy sordidness, and of this twelve month issue, but take thy infant and go in peace. And forthwith she was troubled no more by the evil doers.

Section III---Talitha's Story
(At the eventide, the second day of Nissan)

09 And on the eventide of that same day, I came to Jesus' house, and I seeth a tumult of people, and Salome' his wife weeping and wailing much.

10 And before going inside the house, I asked Jesus and his wife Salome', and saith unto them: What is thy daughter's name? And they said to me: Her name is Talitha.

11 And while I was yet speaking to them, someone came from inside the rabboni's house, saying: Thy daughter is dead. Why dost thou trouble the doctor any further?

12 And after going into the house, where the little girl was lying; I saith unto some bystanders who were inside the house: Why make you this ado, and weep? the maiden is not dead, but fainted. But the bystanders not understanding the woes of womanhood laughed me to scorn.

13 And having put them all out of the house, I taketh the father and the mother of the maiden; and having greater wisdom than the scoffers, I saith unto Jesus and his wife Salome': Fear not, but believe in thy sleeping beauty.

14 And I admitted not any man to follow me, not even Simon or the twins.

15 And taking the sleeping beauty by the hand, and closing off her nostrils with my other hand, I breathed into her mouth the breath of life, and calling her by her name, I saith unto her: Talitha, quwm; [which is here being interpreted to mean; Talitha, I say to thee arise and wake up]. And immediately after I had sealed it with a kiss to her forehead, the maiden woke up, and spoke; and they were all astonished with a great astonishment; for Jesus was enlightened and Salome' was made peaceful.

16 And I charged them strictly that no man should know how I healed her, and commanded that some bread should be given her to eat, lest they cast her bread before the dogs and she should pass out again. For she was twelve years old, and no doubt, like the girl at Sidon, beginning her menstrual years of womanhood.

Section IV--The Restorer of Life
(The Sabbath even, the third day of Nissan)

17 And when the Sabbath day was come, (that is to say, on the third day of April), at the even time, I once again began to teach inside the synagogue of Chorazin-Capharnaum; for Jesus the rabbi, my host for the night, had testified that I was the 'restorer of life', because he said: David whom I once rejected as my king, has restored my daughter back to life.
