FOREWORD

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I hold a book in my hands. And when I read, the page glows white. A strange lonely feeling enters my body; while tears roll down my cheeks. My eyes are blurred, I cannot see. I wipe my eyes to read again and to my surprise, the words I once saw are no longer there. Bewildered by this strange phenomenon, I lay the book down at my side.

I close my eyes and pictures begin to form; some cloudy, others vivid and clear. And if I listen hard enough, I can even begin to hear a soft melodious sound that seems to be whispering in my ear. I go to sleep at night, and see a strangely lit language I can neither read nor understand. Yet when I awaken, and sit down, I am compelled to place pen in hand. Explain it? I cannot. You see, I am not a professional writer. The book I am referring to is the New Testament Bible and more specifically Mark's Gospel.

Writing this book might seem rather odd for someone who is, by most standards, not even a good Christian. Writing this book might seem rather odd for someone who started out with all the intentions in the world of composing a purely metaphysical piece; my interest at the time of composition resting in such topics as the physiology of the body, meditation, the human aura, astral projection, not to mention an avid interest in reincarnation and health; and of late, near death experiences, as well as coping with death and dying have become key focal points, occupying much of my Internet time. It is odd because until my 40th year, I had not even read the Bible; and still have not read it in its entirety, I having tunneled most of my energies into the New Testament or works relegated to it, both scholarly and historic alike. Still, one cannot escape the Old Testament when researching the New. And this I had done as well, but not with any exactitude. I am, you see, a self-taught biblical student and have never had any formal writing or scholarly training.

Strangely enough, and having relied upon what I call Spontaneous Presence, this work was produced while the other still remains incomplete. Oh, t's not because of any grandiose mission but simply because I have an inner need to display what an ordinary lay-person can achieve. And I achieved it with a Commodore128, a Cannon Photo-Copier, a pair of scissors, some scotch tape; and an inner voice that said, write my book. Yes, this might sound like an inefficient way of tackling the Bible but that is exactly how I originally did it; until that day when I was presented with an IBM compatible, but one with a word processor. My idea at the time was to retrace Saint Jerome's steps when he composed the Bible from fragmented parts. And so, step by step, this book, like his, was pieced together. That I do suppose, in conjunction with the many mystical and synchronistic events is the best way to explain how this book came to be.
